Gus is the one that starts the action in some of the episodes by doing something stupid which we find entertaining/funny and this gives the show more character. But i'm not saying he is nice or anything because I agree that he is an idiot. Lets face it but this show is designed for like 8yr olds (no offence because it is awesome) and this stuff appeals to them.

I don't really like Augustus Turner! He eats all the time, he farts all the time, he's selfish and when it comes to I.Q., he makes Donkey Kong look like Einstein!

Gus is a potential Eric Cartman. They're both fat, they sound alike, and the jokes are somewhat close in comparison. Obviously it had to be clean since this show is for little kids...
